The Calera Public Library has been serving Calera and Shelby County residents since 1958. Our new library opened in 2007 in the city’s Oliver Park. This new facility allows space for expansion of the collection including new formats of materials. The library has a collection of over 30,523 materials. Calera Public Library serves a city population of 8,100 plus surrounding unincorporated areas. The library circulated 54,152 items last year. The library is governed by a five-member library board that is appointed by the mayor and city council. The current director, Janet Greathouse, has been with the library since 1991.

Internet access is also available through the library. Programs for children of all ages are offered at the library throughout the year. Adult programs, author visits, book clubs and many other activities are presented for adults and senior citizens.
