The Pelham Public Library is a full service library located adjacent to Pelham City Hall. The 12,000 square foot facility occupies two floors with separate departments for children, popular materials, and reference.  In April 2005, the library was awarded "Blue Ribbon Library" status by the Alabama Library Association.  This is the highest award recognizing excellence in library service.  The Pelham Public Library is one of only seven public libraries in the state to receive this designation.  Pelham is one of the busiest libraries in the state with over 300,000 materials checked out annually.   In addition to materials such as books, DVDs, cds, magazines, and games the library also provides computers for public use featuring high speed Internet access and software for word processing, spreadsheets, and children’s education programs.  There is no charge for computer use.  A library card in good standing allows use of the computers.  Out of town guests are allowed use of the computers by signing a register using their driver’s license as identification.  The library is also a Wi-Fi hotspot which allows residents or guests to the city to connect to the Internet using a laptop computer.  Finally, the library hosts a variety of programs for every age group.  Adult programs are offered monthly while four children’s story times are offered weekly.  Programs for teenagers are offered several times a year.

Once a year the library hosts a Southern writer such as Rick Bragg and Warren St. John in an annual literary festival.
